Beos Personal Edition Virtualbox
BeOS was an OS developed to run on the BeBox hardware. The Personal edition is installed into a 500 MB virtual hard drive on a Windows.
From Previously known only in small circles as the 'Media OS,' BeOS 5 Personal Edition is now available as a free download. Thanks to new innovative technology from Be, you can download BeOS 5 Personal Edition via a Web browser and store it as a file within Windows. No repartitioning is necessary, and launching BeOS 5 is as simple as double-clicking an icon on your desktop. This update incorporates the latest changes that will be released in the upcoming BeOS 5.0.1 patch, as well as some important licensing changes.

I have been looking for an emulator or virtual machine that can emulate BeOS 5 Pro properly. VirtualPC and VirtualBox both lock up on the boot process. VMWARE does not offer a correct driver for either video or network. What makes BeOS for Intel so hard to emulate? (other than the fact that the OS is abandoned) You may ask me why I want to do this.
I think that BeOS was the best operating system ever written for open PCs. ( I don't count MacOS because it is only legaly allowed on Apple hardware and therefore is not open.) My experience with those new OSes that are trying to replicate Be leads me to the conclusion that they are not ready for prime time. Posts: 6 Joined: 1.
Aug 2008, 07:19. I was able to get BeOS R5.0.3 Pro working in up to VirtualBox 4.2.20 (VirtualBox 4.3 and later hang at the boot screen). I've got it installed to a virtual hard drive, and most things work. The drawbacks are only one CPU, and flaky audio. If you're interested, I wrote up the description of the install procedure in a blog post titled 'Installing BeOS 5.0.3 Professional in VirtualBox 4.2.8'; a Google search should find it.
